The Powershot G1X Mark III is a superb camera. It is one of very few compact fixed lens cameras that features an APSC sized sensor. Most similar cameras have one inch sensors, the APSC sensor has about three times the surface area of those one inch sensors. Powershot G1X Mark III is capable of producing fantastic photographs and professional looking videos.
Canon’s sensor technology has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. They have made significant improvements in the low light abilities and have also greatly improved the dynamic range. The files from this 24.2MP sensor are so good the higher ISO shots almost rival the full frame 5D III. In fact, under exposed images can be recovered with much more contrast and much less noise than the 5D III
Dual Pixel magic
The Dual Pixel Autofocus in Live View is nothing short of sensational, especially when it’s coupled with the touch sensitive swivel LCD screen. Accurate focus can be obtained with a simple tap of the screen. This is great when shooting photos but really comes into its own when shooting video. You can so easily pull the focus from one item in the frame to another with a simple tap, or even slide your finger across the screen to better control the speed of focus pull.
My favourite feature of this camera is the quick focusing, and tracking, touch sensitive fully articulating LCD. It really allows you to easily take shots from different perspectives and help capture unique and interesting images.
Another great feature of this camera is that it is weather sealed, something that’s very unusual on compact, fixed lens cameras.
The Powershot G1X Mark III comes equipped with Wi-Fi and NFC, allowing for easy communication with other devices and sharing of photos. Additionally, Canon’s Camera Direct app allows you to remotely control the camera settings, including zooming the lens, so you can take great photos from a distance.
