This classical focal length lens, perfect for a multitude of situations from street to landscape, is of the first designed specifically to work with Nikon’s new line of mirrorless full frame cameras, the Z6 and Z7 with the brand-new Z mount.
The Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.8 S is one of Nikon’s new S line lenses. They promise new levels of optical performance, design and quality not seen before. The S line lenses all have stepping motors to ensure quick, accurate and near silent operation.
This lens promises fantastic performance, hitting a new optical benchmark for f35mm F/1.8 lenses. It utilises Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass to reduce Chromatic Aberration (CA) and Aspherical (AS) lenses to reduce aberrations like coma. This lens has two ED lenses and no less than three AS lenses.
Based on Nikons published test results it seems this lens performs superbly wide open, with excellent sharpness right across the frame. I’ve also seen comments that indicate coma is particularly well supressed. This could also be an excellent lens for astrophotography.
Additional lens coatings help to prevent ghosting and flare. They repel water, dirt and grease, helping to keep the front of the lens clear and much easier to clean.
A new feature of the Z lenses is the customisable control ring. It allows the user to select between using the ring for manual focus or to use it for changing aperture or exposure compensation. This is a great feature, especially during recording video.
The Nikkor Z 30mm f/1.8 S is weather sealed for dust and drip resistance.
