Olympus have extended their range of their Micro Four Thirds f/1.2 Pro lenses with the M.ZUIKO F1.2 PRO 17mm.
When producing this lens, Olympus haven’t simply focused on the resolution and amount of bokeh the lens can produce, they’ve also concentrated on optimising the quality of that bokeh and the smoothness of the transition from sharp elements of the image to the out of focus elements.
New design developments
This 17mm lens (34mm in the 35mm format equivalent) contains 15 elements in 11 groups. Its special lenses include the recently developed ED-DSA lens which has the characteristics of both an Extra low Dispersion lens and also a Dual Super Aspherical lens designed to counteract the typical aberrations found in wide angle lenses.
Designed to perform
A great lens relies on good internals and this lens sports high precision, smooth, fast and near silent focusing making it ideal for both stills and movies. Additionally, it is dust proof, splash proof and even freeze proof, not an issue we normally face in our climate but it says a lot about the build quality of this lens. One of the real benefits of four thirds cameras is the size and weight saving and this lens doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
This lens features a 62mm filter thread, handily the same size as is on the other f1.2 Pro lenses.
