This stunning compact scope really is as good as it looks – punching well above its weight – the 76mm primary mirror will out-perform our best 60mm refractor and yet is vastly more portable and convenient to use.

Handsome styling The appearance of Sky-Watcher Heritage-76 has been specially designed to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) and the 400th Anniversary of the first telescope.

This is not only a highly functional precision optical instrument but also a handsome display piece and looks great sitting on a desk or shelf. It may seem odd and beside the point to stress the outside looks of something normally judged exclusively on how it performs when you look through it! But great performance and good looks are important aspects of any product – especially if it is to be received as a gift – and the Heritage 76 hits the spot bang on.

The beautiful tube graphics illustrate a richly historical theme. The images have been specially designed to symbolise the triumphant 400 year history of the telescope.

The telescope comes equipped, as standard, with a 5x magnification Finder-scope, for the easy location of targets in the night sky (and in daytime too). Two great eyepieces included! The two supplied eyepieces have been specially upgraded to higher quality Super Achromatic to increase the resolution and detail that can be revealed with this telescope.

Accepts all 1.25″ eyepieces. The telescope accepts standard 1.25” accessories so the magnification range can easily be extended with additional eyepieces and/or a Barlow lens.

Easy to use. The uncomplicated manually operated (Dobsonian) alt-azimuth mount makes it a convenient, highly portable, grab-and-go system. The complete telescope and mount comes fully assembled straight out of the box. Just plonk it on the patio table and you are ready to observe – it really is that simple.

Scopes’n’Skies comment: This is a great little scope and we love it! It’s fun to use and it just works so well. The no-fuss design makes the telescope feel over-built and robust and that is a big plus in any telescope design. Many telescopes in the under £100 class are too flimsy (we make it a rule to avoid these ‘under-built’ scopes) to provide good views – especially when used by the very young. This well made telescope is ten times more robust than most other telescopes in this class.

What can you see with the Heritage 76

Even at low-power the “seas” and highland craters of the Moon will be seen (too many to count) as will the four large moons of the giant planet Jupiter. The phases of Venus (much like the moon) can be observed. At the higher power and at favorable observing times, Jupiter will appear as large slightly oblate disk in the eyepiece and it will be as big as half the diameter the full Moon appears to the unaided eye, and the central bands in its dense gaseous atmosphere will be discerned. The rings of Saturn can even be seen with this scope. At its highest power the telescope shows the Moon as an incredible ancient landscape of impact craters and intricate rills and valleys with views of the most spectacular mountains in the solar system (and all from your back garden and for less than £50!). Deep-sky targets like the Great Orion nebula star-nursery and the giant M31 island galaxy in Andromeda (over 2 million light-years away from Earth!) are unforgettable views in the Heritage 76.
