This new 17-35mm F/2.8-4 lens is a fantastic addition to Tamron’s line up is a relatively inexpensive introduction to ultra-wide opportunities for full frame cameras.
It should be great for landscapes, water and seascapes (especially as it accepts screw in filters) and also for astroscapes, with the fast F2/8 aperture at 17mm. There really aren’t many lenses in this category that can offer so much versatility at such an affordable price.
Ground breaking form factor
Full Frame ultra-wide zoom lenses as fast as f/2.8 are usually big heavy expensive beasts, for example, Tamron’s other 17-35mm lens comes in at 1.1kg.
This lens is the smallest and lightest F/2.8 ultra-wide zoom available for Full Frame cameras and weighs only 460g.
This lens has 7 blades that are shaped to provide a circular diaphragm. This in turn produces beautifully smooth edged bokeh rather than some of the angular edged bokeh often seen.
The A037 offers dust and moisture resistance which includes a seal at the lens mount area and the front element is fluorine coated to help keep the lens clean and also helps with the cleaning process.
The lens accepts the popular sized 77mm screw in filters. Screw in filters are not at all common amongst fast ultra-wide lenses and it can really help to keep costs down.
